Learning photography can take weeks, months or even years. But what if I could teach you in just a few hours?

As a Professional Photography Guide I’d often have clients arrive with brand new cameras purchased specifically for their dream safaris, sometimes I’d only have half a day to teach them Photography 101.

It was a steep learning curve… for me! How do I take a seemingly complex subject and break it into simple learning blocks that can grasped not in weeks, or months but hours!

THE SECRET

There is no better way to learn than through experience. Just like a safari guide being taught how to fire a rifle you will be shown practically how to ‘shoot’ a photograph.

Photography is a practical subject – you don’t learn to drive a car by reading a manual or watching YouTube – you learn by getting behind the wheel and driving, its the same process with photography. Want to know how to get better portrait or travel or wildlife images? I show you exactly how by setting up shots with props for you follow along with your camera.

We start with the foundations so you have the building blocks to adapt to any situation because all good photographs follow a basic formula – a formula that be learnt!

THE FUNDAMENTALS

Understanding Exposure is the key to understanding photography, instead of complicated technical jargon, James uses simple props and metaphors to teach you.

SEEING THE LIGHT

Photography is all about light, if you’ve ever wondered why your photos look different to what your eyes see, it’s because the camera and our eyes work differently, this course will teach you ‘how to see’ like a camera.

THE ART OF COMPOSITION

A badly composed image subconsciously is unpleasing to the eye. You will be shown tips, tricks and techniques to greatly improve your composition with fun photo shooting exercises.

FOCUS AND FLASH
Different focus techniques are required for different situations, and some photos may require a flash; we do more photo shooting exercises to understanding focus and touch on the basics of flash techniques.

SUBJECTS COVERED
Portraits, Posing Techniques, Pets, Travel Shots, Landscapes, Wildlife, Birds, Food, Interiors and Products

REQUIREMENTS
Any camera that has manual controls, even your smart phone can work, though some genre techniques like wildlife, birds
and action aren’t easily transferable to mobile. Please bring a note book, pen, water and snacks (if you wish)
