Travelers Notebook

Photography is communication,  the visual telling of a story. When I first started photography I was working as a Safari Guide so it made sense I focused exclusively on wildlife.

6 years later I spent a year back-packing South America and this diversified my photography to include landscapes, wildlife and people which I label under the same umbrella ‘Travel Photography’.

I know ‘country counting’ is a thing but I only counted countries when I put this website together as I don’t believe travel is about ticking countries but rather in the travel experience itself as my most travelled destination is
my own country.  I’ve spent almost half of the last 15 years traveling in some form of other. There is no way to gain this experience without actually living it. I’ve learnt a lot along the way, mostly how little I actually know… 

I think of travel as climbing a mountain the higher you go
the broader your view! 

My best travel compliment happened in India. I was trying to enter a restricted area alongside the Taj Mahal, I stopped a policeman to ask if it was possible, he surprised me by saying “I saw you yesterday down by the river talking to the boatmen, you are not a tourist, you’re a traveler…”
He then personally escorted me into the restricted area on the back of his motorbike.

In 2011 I started  Photography Tours as a way to teach others everything I’ve learnt over the years, it grew into a small team of incredible photographers lead by Greg with Eric and Melanie helping out, Then Covid happened and we scaled down, we’re hoping 2022 will see a return to business.
